Split PDF Online for Free
PaperDesk Split PDF lets you pull out only the pages you need from a larger PDF and save them as a new file. You do not need to install any software or create an account. Choose your PDF, type the pages you want, and download the result in a few seconds.
How to Split a PDF
- Click “Choose PDF File” and select the PDF you want to split.
- Type the pages you want in the box. Use commas for single pages and a dash for a range.
- Click “Split PDF” and wait a moment while the new file is created.
- Your browser will download a file named paperdesk-split.pdf.
How to Write Page Numbers
The page box accepts single pages and ranges in the same line. Here are a few examples:
- 3 extracts only page 3.
- 2-5 extracts pages 2, 3, 4 and 5.
- 1, 4, 8 extracts pages 1, 4 and 8.
- 1, 3, 5-7 extracts pages 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7.
The pages in your new PDF always appear in normal page order, even if you type them in a different order.
When Is Splitting a PDF Useful?
- Students: send only the pages of a chapter or an assignment instead of a whole book.
- Offices: share one invoice or one page of a report without sending the full document.
- Applications: upload only the pages a form asks for, such as a single ID page.
- Email limits: make a smaller file when the full PDF is too big to attach.
Your Files Stay on Your Device
PaperDesk does not upload your PDF to a remote server to split it. Your own browser reads the file and creates the new PDF, which is useful when your document contains personal or work information. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
Tips for Better Results
- Check the total number of pages first. A page number higher than the total will show an error.
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be split. Remove the password first, then try again.
- Large PDFs can take longer, because your device does the work.
- Want to join pages from different files afterwards? Use Merge PDF.
- If the new file is still large, try Compress PDF.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is PaperDesk Split PDF free?
Yes. You can split PDF files without paying and without creating an account.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The pages are extracted inside your browser, so your PDF stays on your device.
Why do I get an “invalid page” error?
This happens when a page number is zero, higher than the total pages, or not written correctly. Use only numbers, commas and dashes, for example 1, 3, 5-7.
Does splitting change the quality of my pages?
No. The selected pages are copied into the new PDF as they are, so text and images keep their original quality.
Can I split a PDF into many separate files at once?
This tool creates one new PDF from the pages you choose. To make several files, run the tool again with a different set of pages each time.
