You wrote a CV or an assignment in Word and the website asks for a PDF. A PDF looks the same on every phone and computer, and nobody can change it by accident. This guide shows how to convert a .docx file in your browser and what to check afterwards.
Before You Start
- The tool accepts .docx files only. For an older .doc file, open it in Word, choose Save As and pick .docx.
- Use common fonts such as Arial or Times New Roman for the most reliable look.
- Remove any password from the document first.
Step 1: Convert the File
- Open Word to PDF.
- Click “Choose DOCX File” and select your document. Its name appears under the button.
- Click “Convert to PDF”.
- When the message “Your PDF has been created successfully” appears, the PDF downloads with the same name as your Word file.
Step 2: Check the Formatting
PaperDesk reads the text, headings, lists, tables and images of the document and places them on A4 pages. Simple documents such as letters, CVs and reports convert best. Look for these problems:
- Text boxes, headers, footers and columns may look different from Word.
- A page break can fall in the middle of a line.
- Special fonts may be replaced.
Important: The Text Becomes an Image
The pages are created as images inside the PDF, so the text cannot be selected, copied or searched. For a CV or assignment that only needs to be read or printed, this is usually fine. Keep your Word file for any later edits.
If the PDF Is Too Large
Use Compress PDF. Our guide on meeting an upload size limit explains the levels.
Common Problems
- “Something went wrong”. The file may be damaged, password-protected or not a real .docx. Save a fresh copy in Word and try again.
- Layout looks different. Simplify the document, remove text boxes, and convert again.
